Residents of Milwaukee's Garden District have a bright start to their holiday season as Alderman Scott Spiker invites the community to gather for the district's 8th Annual Tree Lighting on December 3. Starting at 6 p.m. at the corner of 6th and Norwich, just a block south of Howard, the event promises to deliver holiday cheer with a variety of festivities. According to a statement released by the City of Milwaukee, the evening's activities ensure something for everyone.
As per the same statement, those attending can expect holiday snacks, crafts, and a selection of seasonal songs during the celebration. Children and families are also in for a treat as Santa is scheduled to make a visit. The event's highlight, however, undoubtedly remains the tree lighting ceremony itself, an act that symbolizes community and togetherness during this festive time. Alongside the lighting ceremony, the Garden District ushers in its Winter Wonderland, showcasing 140 lighted displays comprising over 30,000 lights, available for view from December 3 through January 3.
In a reflection of the event’s spirit, Alderman Spiker shared his enthusiasm, "This time of year is about coming together and celebrating the seasons. I encourage all area residents to stop by the tree lighting to enjoy treats, songs, holiday displays and a great evening with neighbors," as noted by the City of Milwaukee. Local high school students and other community members contribute original art pieces to the Winter Wonderland, revealing a mosaic of local talent and creativity.
The tree lighting ceremony and the subsequent Winter Wonderland offer more than just a visual spectacle; they represent a seasonal touchstone for the local community, bringing together faces familiar and new in a shared experience of joy and expectance.
