More than 1,500 classic cars rolled into downtown Kenosha on Saturday for the 23rd annual Kenosha Classic Cruise-In, transforming the streets around 56th Street and 7th Avenue into a sprawling open-air showcase of classic cars near the Lake Michigan waterfront.
The scale of Saturday's turnout tracked with the event's growing regional footprint. As reported by FOX6 News Milwaukee, which covered the cruise-in through reporter Andrew Amouzou, more than 1,500 classic cars were expected at the event. The event has grown into a major regional draw, with display counts reaching between 1,500 and 1,800 vehicles, according to Visit Kenosha.
Streets Close, Streetcars Run Free to Handle the Crowds
Managing that many vehicles and their spectators takes some coordination. Local officials closed several downtown streets starting at 6 a.m. Saturday and set up temporary one-way routes on 56th Street eastbound and 54th Street westbound, per WRJN. The traffic plan also included closures and one-way routes around Calabria Way.
To ease the parking crunch along the lakefront, the same report notes that Kenosha's electric streetcar system offered free public transit throughout downtown from 10:35 a.m. to 6:35 p.m. Saturday. The service gave visitors another way to travel through downtown during the event.
Free Admission, Charitable Roots
The cruise-in is co-sponsored by the Kenosha Classic Street Machines car club and the City of Kenosha, offering free entry to both car owners and spectators. The event also collects non-perishable food donations for The Salvation Army.

The turnout reflects more than nostalgia for old cars — it also invites reflection on Kenosha's industrial past.
