A tragic collision unfolded this morning at the intersection of 27th Street and Howard Avenue in Greenfield, involving a school bus and four other vehicles, leaving a 26-year-old Milwaukee woman dead and several others injured. The Greenfield Police Department reported to FOX6 News that the accident occurred just before 9 a.m. and that no children were present on the school bus at the time.

According to Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the bus driver and three other individuals from the vehicles involved were transported to a local hospital with injuries considered non-life-threatening. After the crash, the busy thoroughfare was closed on Highway 241 in both directions, until it was reopened at 1:50 p.m., as observed by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

Lamers Bus Lines Inc., the company owning the school bus, confirmed their vehicle's involvement in the crash. A representative explained to WISN 12 News, "Just coming down 27th Street. Well, just all this huge, loud noise, boom, booming and cars stopping and people getting out the cars and trying to run and assist," recounted Regina Ivy, who witnessed the aftermath. Furthermore, the Lamers representative speculated that the collision was likely initiated by a car running a red light, causing the school bus to lose control during a turn, leading to tragic consequences.

"When you look at this, this absolutely did not have to happen. And there's a lot of people that's injured here. Very serious situation, not just looking at property damage, but this really just should not have happened," Dean Brown from Lamers expressed in a WISN 12 News interview. All drivers involved in the incident remained at the scene and are cooperating with the ongoing investigation by the Greenfield Police Department, with assistance from the Wisconsin State Patrol.
