Residents of Minneapolis and surrounding areas are facing a wet start to the week, with a 100% chance of rain and thunderstorms hitting before 10 a.m. today, according to the National Weather Service. The downpour could deliver between a tenth and a quarter of an inch of rain, though higher amounts are possible in thunderstorms. The temperatures are expected to rise to a high near 58 degrees, with a shift in wind from south-southeast to northwest later in the afternoon.
Visibility might be an issue for early morning commuters with areas of dense fog forecasted to affect visibility down to 1/4 mile or less. Tonight, the likelihood of rain returns with a 40 percent chance after 3 a.m. and cloudy skies that will drop the temperature to a low of around 42 degrees. Looking ahead to Tuesday, rain is expected to persist mainly before 5 p.m., ushering in cooler temperatures with a high near 44 degrees and north-northeast wind conditions set to change to northwest in the afternoon.
The outlook, however, improves midweek as weather conditions begin to clear up. "Partly sunny, with a high near 50," the NWS predicts for Wednesday, alongside conditions that remain calm with a light, evolving southeast breeze by the afternoon. This is followed by mostly sunny skies on Thursday, with a high near 54 and a continuation of calm winds, according to the NWS forecast.
As the week goes on, temperatures will slowly rise with Friday's high inching near 55 degrees. However, the calm spells will likely be interrupted by another 20 percent chance of rain after midnight on Friday. Over the weekend, the variability continues with a 50 percent chance of rain on Saturday and likely rain on Saturday night. But Sunday offers some respite with only a 20 percent chance of rain and partly sunny skies. Despite the fluctuating weather, the National Weather Service's Hazardous Weather Outlook does not anticipate any hazardous weather after today.
