Residents of the Fulton Neighborhood in Minneapolis can breathe a small sigh of relief as the major portion of the local natural gas project wraps up. According to a recent update, CenterPoint Energy has completed the installation of the natural gas main and service lines in the area. However, with the onset of colder weather, the neighborhood is set to see only temporary restoration measures until permanent fixes are implemented in the coming year.
The temporary restorations aim to ensure that sidewalks remain navigable and safe for snow removal and pedestrian traffic. The company has stated that "Sidewalks receive temporary asphalt, allowing for safe snow removal and transportation throughout the cold months." In the face of winter, such provisional measures are critical to maintain a level of normalcy. Nevertheless, residents can look forward to seeing permanent concrete restoration kick off once the temperatures begin to rise in the spring.
Addressing concerns about the potential impact on the environment during winter months, the update outlined measures to combat winter erosion. The strategy involves backfilling holes with dirt and securing them with straw matting. This sets the groundwork for more sustainable efforts, which are scheduled for 2025 as they "will replace the temporary work done this fall" as per CenterPoint Energy - Minnesota report.
While the Fulton neighborhood can expect to see the light at the end of the tunnel for these infrastructure upgrades, the company has expressed gratitude for the community’s patience during the upheaval. "Thank you for your patience this season as we made important upgrades to the infrastructure in your neighborhood. Have a wonderful fall!" a statement said. For further details on the restoration process and what to expect, residents are directed to visit the company's Restoration Practices page.
