Last month, Minnesota saw a coming together of community members, state officials, and representatives from various state agencies to honor and celebrate the contributions of Asian Pacific Minnesotans. The Minnesota Department of Public Safety made a point of highlighting their support for the Council on Asian Pacific Minnesotans' efforts. At this event, individuals were able to not only acknowledge the achievements but also engage in a dialogue of support and solidarity with the AAPI community. The department took to social media, stating, "Showing up matters — whether it’s when people are most in need, or to come together and celebrate accomplishments."

Notably present at the event were Commissioner John Harrington and representatives from the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, Driver and Vehicle Services, Human Resources, and Office of Justice Programs. These state representatives suggest to actively participate in such celebrations, recognizing their importance in fostering a sense of community and understanding among Minnesotans of diverse backgrounds. "We are proud to support Council on Asian Pacific Minnesotans' work and thankful that representatives...joined many others to reflect and celebrate the contributions of Asian Pacific Minnesotans," the department shared in their Facebook post yesterday.

As dialogues around representation and inclusivity continue to be at the forefront of social discourse, Minnesota's Department of Public Safety has exemplified how governmental institutions have the ability to not just protect, but also to acknowledge and embrace the diversity within their jurisdiction.
