Tragedy struck a Mint Hill neighborhood this morning in a domestic incident that left one man dead and a woman seriously injured. According to WBTV, the shooting occurred around 7:45 a.m. on Auburn Whisper Lane. Mint Hill Police, in a statement to the public, detailed that the violence unfolded in the driveway of a residence and is being investigated as a domestic situation.
The confrontation left a man, who officials say died from self-inflicted gunshot wounds, and a woman, sustaining serious injuries. She was promptly taken to an area medical center with what were initially reported as life-threatening injuries, as described by the QC News. An update on her condition has since been provided, clarifying the wounds as non-life-threatening. The identity of both the man, and the woman has yet to be disclosed by authorities.
Despite the catastrophic nature of the event, Mint Hill Police have described it as an "isolated incident" between two individuals who were in a relationship. Neighbors of the normally quiet area expressed their shock and concern. "You'd think that kind of thing would be happening in a city and not so close to home. The worst thing around here has been carjackings, and my prayers definitely go out to the family," said local resident Alistair Robertson to Channel 9.
