Two people were involved in a dramatic single-vehicle accident in Orange County on Sunday, which left them with only minor injuries—a turn of events deemed "miraculous" by the Newport Beach Fire Department. The incident occurred in the early hours, around 1:00 a.m. on Jamboree Road, near the Palisades Tennis Club. According to KTLA, the SUV they were in hit two light poles before colliding with a tree, causing the engine compartment to violently separate from the vehicle.
Despite the severity of the crash, which had left the main body of the SUV approximately 20 feet away in the center of the road, both occupants managed to quickly extricate themselves. They were found by first responders sitting on a nearby curb. In conjunction with a post on the department's Instagram, Newport Beach Fire Department units NE63, NT63, NB6, NM65, and NM62 responded to the scene where they thoroughly extinguished a fire that had broken out in the vehicle's engine compartment.
The two individuals were assessed on the scene before being transported to a local hospital in stable condition, as per the Newport Beach Fire Department. A deeper delve into the circumstances that led to such a brutal crash was not immediately clear and remains under investigation. Officials at the scene reminded the public of the heightened risk of traffic accidents during the holiday season and stressed the importance of driving responsibly.
