
A tragic turn of events unfolded in Stanislaus County over the weekend as authorities have detained a young man in connection with a fatal hit-and-run incident while under the influence. The California Highway Patrol Modesto division reported that 22-year-old Jasneal Hayer is facing DUI, hit-and-run, and vehicle manslaughter charges following a collision that resulted in the death of a pedestrian on Saturday night, as per KCRA.
According to California Highway Patrol officials, a distress call about the crash came in at around 9:12 p.m.; officers were dispatched to South 9th Street just north of Hatch Road near Modesto where they encountered a man lying in the roadway, who was pronounced dead at the scene, a situation lamentable and abrupt; the California Highway Patrol officers, while responding, noticed a 2020 Mercedes sedan parked near the lifeless man, the driver of which, later identified as Hayer, attempted to vacate the area via southbound Highway 99, however, police apprehended him shortly after his departure, as reported by KCRA.
Upon inspection, the Mercedes was discovered to have sustained front-end damage, indicative of recent engagement in a collision, furthermore, Hayer was found to be driving under the influence, leading to his current incarceration at the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center.
