The Montgomery County Commission for Women has extended the nomination deadline for the Montgomery County “Women Making History Award,”  to December 12, as confirmed by a press release. Teaming up with Montgomery Women, the Commission aims to shine a spotlight on women making substantial strides in both their professional spheres and within the local community.

The accolade seeks to celebrate those who have demonstrated achievements like fostering programs that spur societal change, displaying outstanding civic leadership, serving as exemplary role models, or exhibiting unwavering dedication in their respective fields. High school seniors and college students are also among those who could be lauded for their contributions. It’s clear: the determination to lift up those who labor for the betterment of their environs remains unwavering.

Past “Women Making History” honorees, now stepping into their fourth year, have included Maryland's own luminaries like Lt. Governor Aruna Miller and Maryland Secretary of State Susan Lee, as well as community stalwarts Effie Macklin, Kathy Stevens, and Carrie Fox. This year, however, brings a bit of a change; nods towards elected officials or those with political ambitions actively campaigning have been removed from the table.

The nomination form is available online, with an emphasis on compelling, original bios capped at three paragraphs. The Commission isn't accepting mail-in submissions. For those interested in more details or perhaps needing a nudge in the right direction, reach out to Ijeoma Enendu at 240-773-5581.
