A Montgomery County man has been arrested following an incident in which he allegedly used his vehicle and firearm to instill fear on Sunday. According to a report by ABC13, the accused, 53-year-old John Dyer, is said to have repeatedly rammed into a stranger's car before opening fire, shooting at the victim and striking his vehicle numerous times, embedding it with roughly 11 bullet holes.
The series of events reportedly unfolded near the intersection of Hardin Store Road and Trailwood Estates Drive just before noon. Witnesses initially informed the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office of gunfire targeting vehicles in the area. It was later established, through victim interviews, that the confrontation escalated rapidly when Dyer collided with the victim's vehicle not once, but thrice, and then proceeded to discharge his weapon at him. "The next thing I knew, he started shooting at me, and my back window exploded. I am still on the phone with my brother, and I am saying, 'He is shooting at me. He's shooting at me," the victim, who wished to remain anonymous, recounted in an interview obtained by ABC13.
The victim described narrowly avoiding further harm, explaining that a bullet passed through the windshield in the spot where his head would have been had he not instinctively ducked. The victim was able to eventually drive to safety at a nearby Exxon station and check for injuries. In contrast to the sheriff's office suggestion of road rage being the motivation, the victim believes the attack was random and unprovoked, explaining, "This dude tried to execute me on the road. This wasn't road rage," in a statement obtained by ABC13.
In a related coverage by Click2Houston, it is reported that Dyer's aggressive outburst did not only to target the unnamed victim; two other vehicles were struck by gunfire during the assault. Despite the intensity of the event, no injuries were reported. The aftermath found Dyer's vehicle crashed at the intersection, which led to his arrest and subsequent transport to Montgomery County Jail on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and for which he has been handed a $50,000 bond.
