Authorities are seeking public assistance following new developments in an eight-year-old cold case involving unidentified child remains. The case, commonly referred to as "Baby Madison," involves skeletal remains discovered inside a black suitcase on September 17, 2016. Found along Interstate 45 just north of Madisonville, Texas, the girl was estimated to be between 2 to 5 years old. In an effort to finally identify her, a new facial reconstruction image has been released by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI.

The initial release of a facial reconstruction by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in 2019 showed the girl with micrognathia, a condition in which the lower jaw is smaller than normal. However, according to new analysis by forensic professionals as reported by FOX 7 Austin, it now appears the child may not have had this condition. Authorities hope the updated image accurately reflecting her likeness will better aid in her identification.

The image of Baby Madison was released during a press conference where local law enforcement and the FBI urged the community to look closely at the photo. "During a press conference Thursday, MCSO and the FBI released the new image and asked the public to take a close look to see if they recognize her," FOX 26 Houston reported. Wrapped in white garbage bags, Baby Madison’s remains were accompanied by a size 4 diaper and a pink dress with the heartfelt plea "Follow your Dreams."

In addition to the facial reconstruction, investigators provided additional insights into Baby Madison's background. Genetic testing suggests ties to El Salvador and Nuevo Leon, Mexico. Moreover, a 2019 analysis indicated that pollen found with the remains hinted that Baby Madison might originally be from Southwest U.S., potentially Southeast Arizona, or an adjacent area of Mexico. "Authorities say the girl had a feeding tube and would have been seen by medical professionals at some point," according to information obtained by FOX 7 Austin, adding to the mystery of her final days.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office and FBI have made a call to the public for any information that can help identify her or who may have left her body on the side of the road. They ask anyone with information on Baby Madison’s identity or circumstances to call Madison County Sheriff’s Office at (936) 348-2755 ext. 322.
