New Orleans drivers should note that starting this coming Monday, additional school zone flashers will be installed. The city's Department of Public Works is introducing these safety measures to improve protection for students and motorists near schools. This update aligns with State requirements set forth in Act No. 103, which stipulates that school zone cameras operate one hour before and after the school day begins and ends.
The DPW workers have spent significant time reprogramming the flashing beacons, and updating signage to ensure drivers are well-informed of the school zones' active periods. According to the city's announcement, the following locations will see these safety measures activated: the 2000 block of Southbound South Carrollton Avenue, Eastbound Opelousas Avenue at Elmira Avenue, the 3100 block of Westbound Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, and the 2400 block of Eastbound Orleans Avenue.
These measures are intended to be enforced. Drivers who do not slow down during designated times will receive citations for speeding. It's important to pay attention to the signs and monitor your speed to avoid penalties.
As school zone safety remains important in New Orleans, the Department of Public Works is working to improve compliance and protection for all. Motorists are advised to stay alert and follow posted speed limits.
