The New York Attorney General's Office of Special Investigation (OSI) has recently launched a probe into a civilian fatality involving Nassau County Police Department officers. The incident in question unfolded yesterday, when a pedestrian was fatally struck by a police vehicle in Wantagh, Nassau County.
Details provided by the Office of the New York State Attorney General indicate that two officers were traveling southbound on Wantagh Avenue in an official NCPD car when they collided with an individual at the intersection with Duckpond Drive North. The pedestrian was urgently taken to a nearby hospital, yet tragically was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Adhering to New York State Executive Law Section 70-b, has the mandate to thoroughly review such cases where a police officer might be directly implicated in a civilian's death, whether this occurs during their duty hours or not, and regardless if the deceased was armed or unarmed, or if they were in police custody at the time of the incident. The New York Attorney General's Office stated that OSI evaluates every reported incident in which a police officer, peace officer, or corrections officer may have caused a person's death through an act or failure to act.
This investigation follows standard procedure and doesn't suggest any wrongdoing at this point. The investigation aims to provide a transparent look at the events that led to the civilian death in Nassau County.
