The City of Dallas and its Oak Cliff Cultural Center are aligning themselves with a global initiative, bringing into sharp focus the ongoing HIV/AIDS dialogue with a slate of socially conscious programs this December. The Center, in collaboration with Visual AIDS, is hosting "Day With(out) Art 2024: Red Reminds Me" on Saturday, December 7, inviting Dallas locals to experience an afternoon filled with impactful art and pressing conversations surrounding HIV today.

From 2:00-6:00 PM, attendees will be treated to the "Red Reminds Me..." video series, showcasing the works of seven international artists who've taken the narrative of HIV beyond its historically tragic hue. According to the City of Dallas bulletin, the series spans an emotional spectrum that touches on themes from eroticism to kinship, encompassing a prism of experiences and reflections on the virus. Notably, a conversation between Tamera Garrett and Yolanda Bell, as well as a communal grief process helmed by Ofelia Alvarenga, will help guide this day of collective remembrance and enlightenment.

In tandem with these illuminative screenings, practical health initiatives aren't being sidelined; a mobile STD testing station courtesy of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation will also be on site. The Oak Cliff Cultural Center's partnership with Visual AIDS for this event underscores the multi-faceted approach to not just discussing, but actively addressing the ongoing impacts of AIDS within the community.
