An Oakland County man won $6 million from a $300,000,000 Extraordinaire scratch-off lottery ticket. The 36-year-old, who chose to remain anonymous, purchased the ticket at a BP gas station in Farmington Hills. He opted to receive the prize as a lump-sum payment of approximately $4.1 million and plans to use the funds to buy a house and start a business, as reported by CBS News Detroit.
Describing the moment of revelation, the man said, "I play scratch-off tickets here and there." He continued, "When I bought this ticket, I scratched the barcode and scanned it before leaving the store," even as he received a prompt to file a claim at the lottery office, going home then he resumed scratching off the ticket to discover the massive prize, further recounting "I kept saying: 'I’m going to fall over!'" a reaction captured by ClickOnDetroit.
According to mlive, Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli weighed in, stating that winning such an amount is "a dream come true for any Lottery player," further noting that this win marks the first top-prize for the $300,000,000 Extraordinaire instant game. The record win sits amid other notable success stories, with "the last players from Michigan to win a Mega Millions or Powerball jackpot is the Breakfast Club lottery club which claimed a $842 million jackpot in June 2024," as per the latest winnings that are contributing not only to the lives of the victors but also bolstering the state's School Aid Fund, particularly with the unclaimed $1 million Mega Millions prize from 2023.
The man's fortunate win is the latest in a series of life-changing prizes from the Michigan Lottery, which still has more than $274 million in prizes available, including two $6 million top prizes, according to CBS News Detroit.
