An Oakland County woman has won $2 million from the Michigan Lottery's Ace of Spades instant game. The 47-year-old, who chose to remain anonymous, was surprised to discover the prize and is now planning to resign from her job and take a vacation. "When I scratched off my Ace of Spades ticket and saw I won $2 million, I was thrilled and couldn’t believe it was real! I called my mom right away to tell her the big news," she said in a statement obtained by Mid-Michigan Now.
The winning ticket was purchased at Perry's Palace in Pontiac, a location now linked to the significant win. The woman expressed her reaction to the unexpected prize, "Winning is a huge relief and is going to allow me to quit my job and relax," as mentioned in the coverage by the Detroit News. She elected for a one-time lump sum payment of approximately $1.3 million rather than annuity payments for the full amount.
Michigan Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli acknowledged the winner, highlighting the rarity and significance of the event. "So many Lottery players dream of winning big, and that dream is now a reality for this lucky player thanks to a $2 million win playing the Ace of Spades instant game," Shkreli expressed in a release highlighted by MLive.
The win contributes to a strong year for the Michigan Lottery, with nearly $1.8 billion in prizes awarded from instant games in 2023. Since its launch in April, the Ace of Spades game has distributed over $39 million, according to MLive. In contrast, an unclaimed $1 million Mega Millions ticket sold in Southfield in 2023 was forfeited, with the prize instead allocated to the state’s School Aid Fund.
