In preparation for the upcoming football rivalry between Ohio State and Michigan, known as 'The Game,' the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) and Michigan State Police (MSP) have formed a partnership to address impaired driving. The two agencies have announced heightened enforcement measures aimed at reducing the risk of fatal and injury crashes during one of the busiest sports weekends in the region, as per MSP News.

"The best way to keep the roads safe during this weekend’s Ohio State vs. Michigan game is for all drivers to make safety a priority," Colonel Charles A. Jones, Ohio State Highway Patrol superintendent, emphasized in a move to promote responsible behavior amongst fans who will be immersed in the sports festivities, according to a statement obtained by MSP News. Both states' troopers will be particularly focussed on drivers under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicants, imparting the message that safety belts, reasonable speeds, and sober driving are non-negotiable irrespective of team allegiances.

With 'The Game' set in Columbus this year, Ohio officials have taken a proactive stance by offering monetary incentives for alternative transportation, providing $20 Lyft rideshare credits across the state to mitigate the risks of impaired driving, these credits being funded through a grant received by the Ohio Traffic Safety Office from the Governors Highway Safety Association.

Both states encourage citizens to participate in the wider safety network, enabling them to report impaired drivers by safely dialing #677 in Ohio or 911.
