Early yesterday morning, a fire ripped through a vacant apartment building in the south Las Vegas valley, tragically claiming one life. The Clark County Fire Department was called to the scene at approximately 3 a.m., where they found heavy smoke and flames emanating from a single-story multifamily complex located near South Las Vegas Boulevard and east Serene Avenue. KLAS reported the difficult conditions faced by the first responders.
Due to the ferocity of the flames, the Incident Commander, faced with challenging conditions, called for a second alarm to bring in additional firefighting resources to prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby buildings. According to KTNV, once the fire was brought under control, the search of the charred remains led to the discovery of a body.
The identity of the person found deceased within the primary search area has yet to be disclosed by officials, and no residents were reported to need shelter or to be displaced due to the incident, as per a statement by the fire chief obtained by KLAS. The fire crews transitioned to an offensive strategy to combat the fire effectively once conditions improved on the scene.
The cause of the fire is currently undetermined, and the investigation into both the inferno's origin and the circumstances surrounding the individual's death remains open and ongoing. "The case is currently open and ongoing," was shared by KTNV as fire officials continue piecing together the events that transpired in that fateful dawn of flames.
