The City of Phoenix has announced that its offices will be closed on Thursday, November 28, and Friday, November 29 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. This closure affects several city services, including waste collection, public transit, and public works, as detailed by the City of Phoenix. City residents should prepare for adjustments to specific services during the holiday period.
According to the City of Phoenix announcement, trash and recycling will not be collected on Thanksgiving Day. Collection for Thursday's schedule will move to Friday, and Friday's normal pickups will occur on Saturday. Additionally, both the 27th Ave and North Gateway transfer stations will be closed on both Thursday and Friday. The City's Public Works Customer Contact Center will also be taking a break for the holiday. It will remain closed on Thursday and Friday, reopening at 7 a.m. on the following Monday. During this time, Phoenix residents can still find information about services by calling 602-262-6251.
For book lovers, the Phoenix Public Library system will be closed on Thursday and Friday, but online services, including book drops and digital resources, will remain available 24/7. Other community offerings, such as the S'edav Va'aki Museum, will be closed on Thursday and will reopen on Friday, November 29. The holiday will also affect parking and transportation in the city. Parking meters will be enforced from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, including holidays. Public transit services, including buses and light rail, will operate on a Sunday schedule on November 28, resuming regular weekday service the following day, with no Express or RAPID bus services. Public transit customer service desks will be closed on Thanksgiving and have limited hours on Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Dial-a-Ride services will still be available, by reservation only, between 5 a.m. and 11 p.m. on November 28 and 29. Travelers flying out of Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport are advised to book parking in advance and check security checkpoint wait times online, taking advantage of the PHX Reserve program for scheduled TSA screenings, as per the City of Phoenix. During this busy holiday season, any Phoenix resident or visitor seeking help can look for the airport's Navigators. These volunteers, easily identified by their purple attire, will continue their duty of assisting passengers, providing information, and enhancing the experience at America's Friendliest Airport®.
