Yesterday morning in Phoenix, a double shooting left two people injured, and the suspect is now in custody. According to FOX 10, Phoenix Police responded to the scene near 43rd Avenue and McDowell Road around 1:40 a.m. "When officers arrived, they found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds." The victims’ injuries were non-life-threatening, and they were quickly taken to the hospital.
The suspect, 28-year-old Luis Lopez Gutierrez, fled before officers arrived. Authorities later located his car, which led to a chase down I-10. "Lopez took off from officers, at which time he was tracked southbound on I-10," police reported, with air support and Department of Public Safety troopers joining the pursuit, as reported by FOX 10.
The chase ended near Marana, where 28-year-old Luis Lopez Gutierrez was arrested after barricading himself near Cortaro, a neighborhood between Marana and Tucson. The standoff led to temporary lane closures on I-10. Gutierrez faces multiple felony charges, including aggravated assault, trespassing, and disorderly conduct with a firearm. The eastbound lanes of I-10, which had been closed, were reopened around 7:30 a.m., easing traffic that had been disrupted for nearly one and a half hours, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation, as stated by AZ Central.
