In a recent message made public by Pinal County, District 3 Supervisor Stephen Q. Miller shared his heartfelt remembrance of local business owner and community leader, Jimmie Kerr, who passed away earlier this week. Miller, who spoke fondly of Kerr’s impact on the Casa Grande community and its politics, attributed his own development as a policymaker in part to Kerr's mentorship and influence.
Miller stated "As a long-time friend and mentor, Jimmie Kerr was so well respected and seen as a true community leader. He put his community and his constituents in front of personal decisions for the greater good of Casa Grande and Pinal County," According to Pinal County's official statement, Kerr was noted for his exceptional trust within the community, trust so deep that he held keys to the homes of his dry-cleaning customers, providing services even in their absence. "He conveyed a strong sense of trust in the community he helped build," Miller said in the statement.
Miller also highlighted Kerr's belief in his potential as a representative of the people, "Jimmie was a businessman, and he believed he would be a good representative of the community - and he turned out to be an all-star in many ways," Miller said, emphasizing the influential role Kerr played in public service without the aid of today's digital platforms. His engagement with constituents was less about show, and more about substance and genuine connection, as mentioned by Pinal County's official statement.
