Early yesterday morning, a blaze engulfed an apartment complex on Messenger Street in Plainville, resulting in the displacement of over twenty residents. The Plainville Fire Department, aided by mutual aid from surrounding communities, tackled the fire that broke out at approximately 5:15 AM, as reported by Commonwealth of Massachusetts. While the flames were contained primarily to one apartment, the impact was felt throughout the building with smoke and heat causing extensive damage.

Chief Robert E. Skinner of the Plainville Fire Department highlighted the invaluable role of a secondary egress recently installed on the upper floors, which significantly improved the evacuation process. Fortunately, no severe injuries were reported, with a few individuals receiving medical evaluations for smoke inhalation, and one pet was rescued and subsequently treated.

Investigators from the Plainville Fire Department, the Plainville Police Department, and State Police fire investigators attached to the State Fire Marshal’s office, have determined the fire was intentional following scene examinations, witness statements, and the collection of further evidence. Heather A. MacKinnon, 61, has been identified as the person allegedly responsible for the incident.

Subsequently, the Plainville Police Department located and arrested MacKinnon in North Attleborough. She now faces charges of arson of a dwelling, malicious destruction of property, and disorderly conduct. An arraignment is scheduled in the Wrentham District Court, details of which will follow.
