A recall has been issued for cucumbers and organic eggs due to potential salmonella contamination, affecting several states and Canadian provinces. SunFed Produce, an Arizona-based company, recalled cucumbers sold between October 12 and last Saturday after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration reported associated illnesses during that timeframe. The affected cucumbers were shipped to a roster of states that includes Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin as well as five Canadian provinces, as noted by AP News.

Customers who purchased cucumbers during the specified period are advised to verify if their produce is included in the recall by contacting the store where they were bought. "As soon as we learned of this issue, we immediately acted to protect consumers. We are working closely with authorities and the implicated ranch to determine the possible cause," Craig Slate, the president at SunFed, told FOX 10 Phoenix. He expressed the company's dedication to food safety and consumer health spanning over three decades.

Concurrently, nearly 11,000 cartons of Handsome Brook Farms 24-count organic eggs have been voluntarily recalled by the company. The Kirkland Signature brand eggs, sold in 25 Costco stores across Alabama, North Carolina, Georgia, South Carolina, and Tennessee, should have never made it to retail shelves as they were not intended for distribution in such packaging. The only affected products are those with a UPC of 9661910680 and a Julian code of 327, with a Use By Date of January 5, 2025, according to company statements on the FDA website and reported by FOX 10 Phoenix.

Both recalls were initiated prior to any reported illnesses, and consumers who have purchased the impacted products are urged to either return them to their local Costco store for a refund or properly dispose of them. Salmonella symptoms including diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps can appear within six hours to six days after infection and usually resolve within a week, though they can be severe for young children, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems. Earlier this year, another salmonella outbreak associated with cucumbers affected 450 people in the U.S. as reported by FOX 10 Phoenix.
