A Riverside man, identified as 30-year-old Daina Randle, is currently under investigation for allegedly conducting a fraudulent fundraising scheme that exploited victims over social media and a dating app. According to the KTLA, Randle used a fictitious name and presented himself as a philanthropist, going by "Jaed King" on a dating platform Hinge, where he initially connected with potential victims.
After solidifying trust, allegedly even posting on Instagram about a large donation to a domestic violence nonprofit, Randle is said to have concocted a fundraiser that claimed to offer discounted electronics. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department reported that victims were led to believe their money was going towards a good cause and were persuaded to widely share the fundraiser with friends and family, contributing over $1,000 in hopes of receiving goods before Christmas. FOX LA details that after the funds were transferred, Randle purportedly cut off all communication, blocking victims on social media and via phone to avoid repercussions.
Randle, who used an 818 area code to further disguise his identity, is presently in custody for unrelated charges in Los Angeles County. Investigators are now actively seeking additional victims who may have been swindled by the suspect and encourage them to step forward. To identify and aid these additional victims, Sheriff’s authorities have released photos of Randle from his social media account under the handle "DONDADATHEKING", as cited by the SBSD Yucaipa Police Department.
Those who believe they might have been victims of this scheme or have relevant information are being urged to contact Corporal S. Evans of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. Officials promise confidentiality for those who wish to remain anonymous and provide a platform through the We-Tip Hotline for such reports.
