Transit in San Mateo County is headed for a transformation, as the SamTrans Board of Directors officially green-lit a new strategic plan dubbed "Moving San Mateo County." In a vote that charts the course through 2035, the transit agency embraces a policy framework for updating service priorities, operational strategies, and future investments. SamTrans is not just planning for buses; the agency also oversees Caltrain and the San Mateo County Transportation Authority (TA), a role that was factored into this forward-looking strategy.
The plan lays the groundwork in four main areas: creating an outstanding mobility experience, revolutionizing regional mobility towards equity and sustainability, fostering partnership and innovation, and prioritizing safety. "We’re thrilled to adopt the 'Moving San Mateo County' strategic plan, which will pave the way for an even brighter future for our transit services along the Peninsula," Board Chair Marina Fraser expressed, as per SamTrans. It doesn't immediately tweak the District’s operational budget, but some components will call for funding in upcoming budget cycles.

In their report yesterday, SamTrans detailed the inclusive approach, a mix of interviews, surveys, and public meetings, that sought to tune the plan into the real needs and aspirations of its user base and workforce.
