The City of Fort Collins residents seeking a sustainable and cost-effective way to commute have a new option to consider. The City of Fort Collins, in collaboration with The North Front Range Metropolitan Planning Organization (NFRMPO) and Colorado State University (CSU), has launched an incentive program designed to gently coax commuters to sign up for the VanGo Vanpooling service. New participants are now eligible for a $100 monthly subsidy for a period of up to six months, aiming to make eco-friendly transit more accessible.
The service, which is known for its national recognition, operates over 20 routes with nearly 100 commuters traveling from Northern Colorado to various front ranges and plains destinations. It has been established to reduce both traffic congestion and environmental pollution and now, to partially relieve the financial burden of transit for up to 30 new riders. According to the City of Fort Collins, commuters can create an online profile to find vanpools that match their specific needs and to quickly sign up for this offer.
For drivers and passengers alike, VanGo offers numerous perks: shared driving responsibilities, the liberty to work or rest during commutes, and federal commuter tax benefits. Participants also gain access to HOV lanes for groups of three or more riders, a guaranteed ride home, alongside professional fleet maintenance services, all considerable reductions in the daily wear and strain on personal vehicles. Employers score benefits too, like having more alert employees who are free from the stresses of the morning traffic jam and parking scarcities at the workplace that ease when staff carpool.
The monthly fare for VanGo can range from $98 to $362 depending on the travel distance, with part-time fare options also available for flexi-schedule employees. This initiative is part and parcel of the City's broader commitment to climate action and sustainability, providing an easy-to-employ solution to reduce transportation-related greenhouse gas emissions. The city's ambitious plan to promote eco-friendly commuting options is evident through platforms such as vangovanpools.org, which help users to actively track their commutes, compute savings, and view the environmental advantages of their transportation choices.
