The San José Police Department has stopped a large-scale Lego theft operation with the arrest of 46-year-old Jesus Delgadillo, a San José resident. Since August of this year, the Organized Retail Theft Detail has been tracking a series of thefts that pulled over $18,000 worth of Lego sets and other items from the shelves of various Target locations across the city.
Delgadillo's spree included forty-one incidents, leading to a coordinated effort between the SJPD and the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office. An arrest warrant was obtained, and on November 14, Delgadillo was apprehended and found with stolen goods in his vehicle. He faces multiple counts of grand theft and attempted grand theft, as provided by a San José Police Department release.
"Thanks to the grant awarded by the California Board of State and Community Corrections, the San José Police Department's Organized Retail Theft Detail can focus our efforts investigating retail crime. Members of the Organized Retail Theft Detail work tirelessly to investigate each incident," Sergeant Piña, Supervisor of the SJPD Organized Retail Theft Detail, said, as per the San José Police Department. City Manager Jennifer Maguire recognized the team's dedication, stating, "I am thankful for the hard work of our Police Department and Organized Retail Theft Detail."
