Seattle's recovery efforts from the recent storm continue as residents deal with power outages and cleanup. Fallen leaves, broken branches, and various debris have left the city a bit less shiny, clogging storm drains and presenting flood risks for neighborhoods. The city is now offering a helping hand with yard waste disposal.

Until November 30, Seattleites can dispose of extra yard waste without additional cost through the city's free yard waste program. Residents billed for food and yard waste collection can set out up to 10 extra bags of yard waste per collection day at no extra charge, the yard waste can be placed in 32-gallon cans, paper or compostable bags, or tied in bundles using fiber twine, as detailed by the city on its official blog, At Your Service Seattle. The instructions are clear but do note that cans should be labeled yard waste and filled loosely for easy handling and that plastic banding and wire should not be used in bundling the waste.

Furthermore, clearing storm drains has been highlighted as a vital and safe activity for locals, with guidelines including wearing gloves and being aware of traffic. The city's initiative to lessen the burden comes just as another wave of windy conditions is forecasted to hit the city again today, potentially bringing further debris and compounding the existing challenges for the hardworking cleanup crews and citizens alike.

With the month still holding a few days, the city encourages everyone to take advantage of this period to assist in the collective recovery effort. Updates on power restoration and outages can also be found on the Seattle City Light's Powerlines blog.
