Seattle voters have expressed strong support for improving the city's transportation system. In Tuesday's election, they approved the new Transportation Levy, which, according to Mayor Bruce Harrell and Councilmember Rob Saka, will fund various improvements aimed at creating a safer, more connected network across the city.
According to the Seattle City Council Blog, Mayor Harrell expressed his satisfaction with the outcome, stating, "Tonight’s results demonstrate that Seattle voters are committed to advancing a safer transportation system that benefits all." The levy aims to improve bridge upgrades, smoother roads, more sidewalks, and better transit connections. As Harrell stated, these efforts support Seattle's One Seattle vision, which focuses on the well-being, safety, and mobility of everyone who lives or commutes in the city.
Councilmember Rob Saka, who leads the Council's Transportation Committee, praised the levy for its forward-thinking, community-focused planning. "I want to thank Seattle voters for approving the 2024 Transportation Levy. Let’s move Seattle!" Saka said. He emphasized the collaboration between the Mayor's Office, the Council, and citizens in creating a transportation plan that addresses current needs and supports future growth.
As Seattle's Department of Transportation prepares to implement these plans, attention will be on how they address the needs of the city's diverse population. With strong public support, Seattle's transportation system is poised for transformation, aiming for a safer, more reliable, and better-connected network.
