A tragic incident unfolded earlier this year when Dori Campbell, a 35-year-old Silver Spring resident, was driving in the early hours of September 8 and struck pedestrian Ernest Joseph Dyson, a 39-year-old WSSC Water employee working in Montgomery County. Dyson was working near New Hampshire Avenue and Rodney Road when he was fatally hit by Campbell's vehicle, resulting in his immediate death at the scene, confirmed by Montgomery County Fire and Rescue personnel.
According to Montgomery County Department of Police, an investigation into the accident revealed speeding and impaired driving as critical factors. Found traveling at a speed of 50 mph in a 40-mph zone, Campbell's blood alcohol content was recorded at 0.19, well above the legal limit. Police reported locating a half-empty bottle of alcohol in the front passenger seat, pointing to her state during the incident.
The legal repercussions for Campbell followed soon after the incident, with Montgomery County Department of Police arresting her on multiple charges related to the fatal collision. Yesterday, Campbell faced a warrant that included severe charges such as negligent manslaughter by vehicle and negligent homicide by vehicle while under the influence, among others. Officials also found that at the time of the incident, Campbell was driving on a suspended out-of-state license and the vehicle she was operating was uninsured.
Currently, Campbell is being held at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit awaiting a bond hearing.
