Tragedy struck the Van Buren County community early yesterday morning as a 55-year-old Sister Lakes woman was found dead following what deputies are investigating as a homicide. FOX 17 reported that the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office had responded to a breaking-and-entering call around 5:15 a.m. in Keeler Township's Sister Lakes area. Upon arrival, deputies discovered an unresponsive woman who, despite attempts to save her life, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have a 23-year-old man from Benton Harbor in custody, suspected to be connected with the burglary and subsequent death of the woman. To ensure a fair legal process, his name is not being disclosed until after his arraignment, as detailed by reports from WOODTV. This caution follows a necessary principle to not only rigorously investigate but to also do so concerning the inherent rights that even those accused of terrible deeds are afforded.
