
A single-engine Mooney M20 aircraft made an unexpected descent into Fullerton on Monday afternoon, coming to rest against a tree after an emergency landing. The incident, near Fullerton Municipal Airport, occurred on the 2400 block of West Artesia Avenue, just blocks east of the airport, as reported by KTLA.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene after the plane struck a tree around 1:45 p.m. while according to a post from the Fullerton Police Department’s Instagram, the crash was reported at approximately 1:46 PM. The Fullerton Fire Department and Fullerton Police Department managed the situation which appeared off the roadway near train tracks, utilized by Metrolink and Amtrak.
Two people aboard the small aircraft sustained moderate injuries and were swiftly transported to a local hospital. With the aircraft remaining upright after its unintended encounter, the event was captured with clarity by aerial footage, as seen in a video from Sky5 linked by KTLA's coverage. There were no other injuries reported, as affirmed by the Fullerton Police Department which was echoed by NBC Los Angeles.
Artesia Boulevard turned into a temporary no-go zone, closed in both directions between Gilbert and Dale streets, as investigations unfolded. The aftermath of the incident mingled with early evening traffic, hinting at disruption as the FAA promised to deliver preliminary results later this week into the cause of this unexpected descent, an assertion mirrored by KTLA's report.
