A 17-year-old boy was shot Sunday night on a residential stretch of Hollywood, and suspects were arrested. Officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 6200 block of Selma Avenue near Vista Del Mar Avenue at approximately 9:30 p.m., according to police accounts of the incident.
The teenager suffered a gunshot wound and was transported by the Los Angeles Fire Department to a nearby hospital in unknown condition, as reported by CBS News. Police have not publicly identified him. Suspects were arrested after the shooting, the outlet's report noted, though the department has not yet detailed the exact circumstances that led up to the gunfire.
Evidence Recovered Near a Cluttered Parking Lot
Investigators cordoned off a parking lot holding nearly a dozen vehicles as part of the scene, and an officer was seen examining a handgun lying on the sidewalk near an electric scooter, per the same account. It remains unclear how the firearm ties into the shooting or where it came from, and the motive behind the confrontation is still under investigation.
The case falls under LAPD's Hollywood Division, which is headquartered at 1358 N. Wilcox Avenue and maintains a Type I temporary jail facility used for initial suspect processing, according to Crown Bail Bonds. Suspects booked there are typically held before being transferred to county jail facilities.
A Citywide Drop in Violence, but Hollywood Keeps Seeing Guns

Los Angeles recorded 230 homicides in 2025, a 19% decrease from 2024 and the city's lowest annual murder total since 1966, according to the City of Los Angeles. Gun seizures also climbed. Even so, Sunday's shooting shows that juvenile-involved gun violence continues to surface in Hollywood's busy commercial corridor despite those broader gains.
What Charges Could Follow
If prosecutors move forward with charges, California Penal Code Section 245(a)(2) makes assault with a firearm punishable by two, three, or four years in state prison, or six months to one year in county jail, plus fines as high as $10,000, according to FindLaw. The statute sets out potential penalties for assault with a firearm.
Separately, California's Penal Code Section 12022.53 allows for mandatory consecutive sentencing enhancements tied to firearm use — 10 years for using a gun, 20 years for firing one, and 25 years to life if the shooting causes great bodily injury or death — as outlined by Power Trial Lawyers. It is not yet known whether either enhancement would apply in this case, since formal charges have not been announced.
