Law enforcement in Southern California is currently on the lookout for a 22-year-old inmate, Samaki M. Tywman, who authorities say walked away from a Los Angeles community reentry program on Tuesday. According to KTLA, an emergency count was initiated at approximately 2:20 p.m. after it was discovered that Tywman had tampered with his ankle monitor.

Tywman, described as 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing around 179 pounds, was last seen in a white t-shirt, black sweatpants, and black tennis shoes. He was serving a five-year sentence for "discharging a firearm in an inhabited dwelling/vehicle/aircraft and second-degree robbery," as noted by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR). Tywman had been participating in the CDCR’s Male Community Reentry Program since early August, a setup intended to assist eligible offenders with integration back into community life.

The reentry program from which Tywman absconded is designed to provide a range of services, including substance abuse treatment, mental health care, employment, and education assistance, and various other support systems aimed at facilitating a smooth transition from custody to community, as per the CDCR. It is a voluntary program targeting incarcerated men nearing the end of their sentences.

Authorities have made a widespread appeal to the public, urging anyone with information on Tywman’s whereabouts to immediately contact law enforcement or call 911. They can also reach out directly to Special Agent Abraham Villasenor at 760-936-1851.
