
In the early hours of the morning, Springfield Police took 25-year-old Hector Rodriguez into custody following the discovery of a loaded firearm in his vehicle. Rodriguez, a Springfield resident, was found inside Blunt Park after the park had closed for the night, leading to further investigation by the patrolling officers.
According to the Springfield Police Department official report, officers were conducting their rounds at around 3:00 a.m. when they encountered the vehicle. Upon identification, Rodriguez, the driver, was recognized to have an active warrant for his arrest, prompting officers to quickly place him under arrest.
The subsequent search of Rodriguez's vehicle led to the discovery of not only a loaded firearm but also additional ammunition. Rodriguez's history includes a prior conviction for firearms charges at Greenfield District Court, deepening the severity of the situation.
Rodriguez has been laden with multiple charges, including carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number, and a firearm violation with one prior violent/drug crime. Additional charges against him comprise being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition without an FID card – subsequent offense, compounded by trespassing and traffic-related offenses.
