Springfield police officers conducted a routine traffic stop last Friday that led to the seizure of a loaded large-capacity firearm and the arrest of three individuals. The incident occurred on the 0-100 block of Carlisle Street shortly after 9:00 p.m., when officers noticed a vehicle without a front license plate, according to Springfield Police Department official reports.

The vehicle in question also displayed other violations including a lack of registration and insurance, along with excessively tinted windows. During the subsequent search, which was standard protocol since the car was to be towed, officers discovered a loaded firearm nestled next to the center console, armed with 16 rounds of ammunition. Each of the three occupants was then placed under arrest and faces various charges relating to the possession and carrying of an unlicensed weapon.

21-year-old Jordan Perez and 22-year-old Jailyn Cassel, both from Springfield, have been charged with carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded large capacity firearm on a public way, and possession of a high-capacity magazine/feeding device. 20-year-old Mohamud Ali, also of Springfield, is facing similar firearm-related charges, in addition to multiple vehicle-related infractions, such as a number plate violation, unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and having a window obstructed/non-transparent.

These arrests highlight an ongoing concern within the community regarding the prevalence of unlicensed firearms. As the investigation proceeds, further details about the intentions of the arrested individuals with respect to the firearm remain to be uncovered. The Springfield Police Department action in this case underscores their continuous efforts to address gun-related issues in the area.
