As the St. Louis area braces for a change in weather, the National Weather Service (NWS) has provided updates on what residents can expect in the coming days. In a recent alert, the NWS detailed a forecast for today that includes sunny skies with a high near 38 degrees and gusts as high as 25 mph. However, the winds are set to die down later this evening, bringing a 30 percent chance of snow after 5 a.m. with an increasing cloud cover and a low around 27 degrees. West wind around 6 mph is expected to become calm in the evening, making for a chilly setup for snow accumulation.
According to the National Weather Service's latest report, tomorrow will primarily bear the brunt of snowfall, predominantly occurring before 2 p.m., with a high near 34 degrees. One to two inches of new snow accumulation is possible, creating a significant response where spotters are encouraged to report snowfall accumulations to the National Weather Service. Light snow is expected to commence late tonight across parts of central and northeast Missouri, as communities prepare for winter conditions.
The NWS outlook extends through the next week, with the snow giving way to mostly cloudy skies tomorrow night, with lows around 23 degrees. Sunday will offer a respite with mostly sunny weather and highs near 34 degrees, leading to a partly cloudy Sunday night and lows around 20. The start of the following week maintains a stable pattern—sunny days with highs in the low 30s and partly cloudy evenings with lows in the low 20s.
While the latter half of the forecast period witnesses a mild increase in temperature, Wednesday and Thursday boast significantly warmer conditions, with highs approaching the 50-degree mark under mostly sunny skies. In a very narrow band, residents can expect 2-3 inches of snow, pointing to the localized nature of this potential winter event. The NWS stresses that light snow for tomorrow, mostly accumulating at an inch or less, is anticipated, indicating a moderate and manageable weather disturbance ahead.
