The City Council meeting in Surprise brought to light the exceptional achievements of the community's volunteer force, the Surprise Police Citizen Patrol, who have recently clinched an international accolade. These unsung heroes were lauded for their unwavering commitment, and recognized with the Leadership in Volunteer Police Service Programs Award from the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), as reported by the city's official news release.
Speaking at the meeting, with palpable pride in his voice that one might argue belonged to a father figure, Police Chief Benny Piña shared his thoughts. "Our volunteers are the heart of everything we do," Piña said, "Their service and dedication inspire us all to do more, and we are truly grateful for the difference they make every day," according to the City of Surprise.
Marylene Cayron, Citizen Patrol Commander, resonated with the sentiment during the accolade proceedings. "Receiving the IACP award was a great honor for us. It reinforced our desire to improve ourselves every day. It reminded us why we volunteer for our police department; we see them as extraordinary people working hard every day, no matter what, for the betterment of our community. Winning this award was better than anything else. It gave us a sense of accomplishment, a feeling of belonging, a feeling to be part of something greater than us," Cayron enthusiastically told the City of Surprise.
