Two individuals were taken into custody in Memphis, accused of perpetrating an armed robbery against a team of construction workers. The incident is said to have transpired on the evening of Sunday, in the Bethel Grove neighborhood, on Burns Avenue. Witnesses informed the police that the workers were concluding their day's labor when they were approached and threatened at gunpoint by Jacam’Ron McIntosh and Marterrio Armstrong as per a report by Action News 5.
As described by the victims, McIntosh and Armstrong demanded and took possession of the workers' valuables, which included money, mobile devices, and personal identification. After the heist, Memphis Police Department quickly traced one of the stolen phones leading to the arrest. Subsequent to their apprehension, officials located not only weapons but illicit substances as well, further complicating the legal predicaments of the accused, reports FOX13 Memphis.
Marco Peneda, the proprietor of the company that employed the victims, expressed distress over the judicial system, questioning the purpose of law enforcement if suspects such as these could potentially be released on minimal bail. “What is the purpose of police doing all this job? To catch them? Risking their lives? They’re risking their lives, too, because they had big guns,” Peneda lamented in a statement to FOX13 Memphis.
Following the identification of Armstrong and McIntosh as the assailants from the ill-fated evening, law enforcement officials conducted a search, which unearthed numerous stolen items at a residence on Lowell Avenue. This evidence included multiple cell phones, cast, and three firearms. Alongside these findings, illegal substances—specifically methamphetamine, and marijuana—were found on McIntosh at the time of the arrest. According to a WREG report, Armstrong confessed to the robbery, stating a desperate need for money.
The charges leveled against the alleged robbers are substantial, with both facing ten counts of aggravated robbery, alongside additional indictments for burglary, and the employment of a firearm during the execution of a felony. Additionally, McIntosh has been charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to manufacture, deliver, or sell—specifically methamphetamine—as well as possession of marijuana. It is also noted that McIntosh had active warrants for felony theft in Shelby County. As of the report, bond had not been set and court appearances were scheduled. The aforementioned information regarding charges and legal proceedings was detailed by WREG.
