Kingston Fire & Emergency Management have reported a significant fire incident that razed a two-story construction garage and spread to surrounding brush on the South Shore, raising suspicions of possible arson. In a statement on Kingston Fire & Emergency Management's Facebook post, the department noted that they "began receiving calls for a structure fire at 126 Wapping Rd" just after 1:30 a.m. yesterday. Firefighters faced a blaze escalated by high winds, which propelled embers across Wapping Rd and caused spot fires to ignite.
Despite the efforts of Kingston Fire Department, with assistance from neighboring Plympton and Pembroke, the inferno required extensive resources to manage. The mutual aid included a "working fire asignment and multiple brush breakers were requested." As a testament to the ferocity of the fire, additional resources from Carver and Plymouth were also called to the scene. The crews worked tirelessly until beyond 8 a.m. when Kingston fire units were once again summoned to extinguish a brush fire along Ring Road—about a half-mile from the original site—which had been smoldering undetected for hours, according to Kingston Fire & Emergency Management post.
Further investigations with a drone ensured no additional fire outbreaks were present. Kingston Fire & Emergency Management’s post stated the original fire "is considered suspicious" and is currently under investigation by the Kingston Fire and Police Departments, as well as the State Fire Marshal’s Office. They expressed gratitude towards their mutual aid partners for their substantial help during the incident. As probing into the cause of the fire continues, authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
