An altercation in Southeast D.C. on Tuesday evening led to an arrest after a man was assaulted with a handgun. The Metropolitan Police Department reported that officers were called to the 2700 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue at around 7:25 p.m. last Tuesday, where they discovered that a verbal disagreement had escalated into a physical attack.

The victim informed the responding officers that the suspect, identified as 51-year-old David Baker, became upset during their exchange and proceeded to strike him multiple times in the head with a firearm. Following the assault, the suspect reportedly discarded the weapon in a nearby trashcan. Despite the violent encounter, the victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and received on-scene treatment from DC Fire and EMS, according to the Washington Metropolitan Police Department news release.

MPD officers located and arrested Baker without a fixed address shortly after. The discarded handgun was also recovered, upon which it was determined to be an unregistered firearm with unregistered ammunition. Baker now faces multiple charges including, Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Pistol Whip), Carrying a Pistol without a License, and Felon in Possession.
