Two individuals have been arrested in connection with a sweeping auto theft operation that spanned across Ventura and Los Angeles Counties, according to the Ventura County Sheriff's Office. On November 22nd, law enforcement officials served search warrants at two residences in Compton resulting in the arrests of 23-year-old Joel Quinonez and a 16-year-old male juvenile. The suspects are thought to be behind a spate of vehicle thefts, specifically targeting high-performance Dodge Ram Hellcat TRX trucks and commercial burglaries.
During the crackdown operation this month, details emerged of a vehicle stolen in October in the Oak Park area, with similar attempts made on vehicles in Thousand Oaks. Investigations revealed that these incidents were part of a pattern also seen in areas under the purview of the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Ultimately, detectives identified and tracked the suspects to the City of Compton, recovering several stolen vehicles in the process.
The investigation took a turn when, on November 20th, four businesses in Thousand Oaks and another in Los Angeles County were burglarized. Surveillance footage captured three individuals in the act, leading to the identification of the juvenile suspect as one of the culprits also involved in the auto theft ring. Upon executing the search warrants, officers discovered evidence solidifying the connection to both the thefts and the burglaries at the suspects' residences.
Quinones was taken into custody at his home and faces multiple charges, including Felony Unlawful Taking of a Vehicle and Felony Conspiracy to Commit a Crime. His bail is at $350,000, and he is scheduled to appear in Ventura County Superior Court. The juvenile was caught after a brief foot pursuit and booked at the Ventura County Juvenile Justice Center, facing similar charges along with Felony Burglary. As the investigation continues, authorities anticipate more arrests and recoveries of additional stolen vehicles.
The Thousand Oaks Police Department has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. They have provided contact information for both emergency and non-emergency situations. The police are also engaging with the community through social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and the Nixle service for local alerts and advisories. For tips leading to arrests, Ventura County Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000, with anonymity protected for those providing information.
