A tragic incident shook the Garland community over the weekend, as police reported a shooting that led to the death of a young man. According to a social media post from the Garland Police Department, officers were called to a weapons disturbance late Saturday night, November 2, in the 3200 block of West Buckingham Road.
Upon arrival, shortly before 11:30 PM, the first responders found a male subject with a gunshot wound in an apartment complex parking lot. Despite quickly being transported to a local hospital, he was pronounced dead from his injuries. In a scramble to understand the violent event, the officers were aided by a police K9, which led them to the fleeing suspect, reported to be a 16-year-old student from Sachse High School.
The suspect was taken into custody and is being held at the Dallas County Juvenile Detention Center on a charge of murder. The identity of the 21-year-old victim, who hailed from Richardson, is being withheld pending notification of kin. While investigators have established the shooting was targeted, the exact circumstances surrounding the altercation remain unclear.
