A somber holiday aftermath unfolded in Putnam County as a 63-year-old Palatka man lost his life in a roadway tragedy on Thanksgiving evening. The fatal incident, occurring around 7:40 p.m. on State Road 207, was documented by the Florida Highway Patrol. In details released to the public, the man, while astride his sedan at the Cracker Swamp Road intersection, made a passing across the northbound lanes and tumultuously collided with an SUV in the southbound trajectory, according to a Action News Jax report.
The force of the impact led to the ejection of the elder driver, who had neglected the safeguard of a seatbelt, and despite the swift convergence of emergency services he was pronounced deceased at the locus of the incident, in an account reported by First Coast News; meanwhile, the driver and a 37-year-old female passenger contained within the SUV sustained injuries that were minor, a stark contrast to the gravity of the loss born by the sedan's solitary occupant.
Authorities have not released identities of those involved as yet, maintaining a customary veil over the bereaved and the recovering alike. The 40-year-old male SUV driver along with his passenger were treated for their minor wounds, confirmed by officials to have emerged relatively unscathed from the Thanksgiving night's ill-fated encounter according to WCJB.
