Bringing a dose of medical drama to the streaming universe, Max is all set to drop its new Pittsburgh-based show, “THE PITT,” in January. This marks an ambitious move, as the 15-episode series will launch despite still being in production until February, as reported by TribLIVE. The network has not officially stated whether the episodes will launch simultaneously or incrementally. Still, the latter approach might serve to edit and keep viewers engaged well into spring quickly.
'The PITT' joins the ranks of medical dramas as a seemingly straightforward portrayal of healthcare professionals dealing with the everyday stresses of emergency medicine. Noah Wyle, who viewers will remember from "ER," plays the lead, Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch, guiding a team of interns and medical students. Echoing its ER roots, it promises to entertain and realistically examine the challenges healthcare workers go through, as Audacy reported in a recent announcement.
It's a coincidence worth noting that two medical dramas from Pittsburgh are launching in the same month. While “THE PITT” will premiere on Max, CBS is gearing up to bring “Watson” to audiences on January 26. Despite the shared setting, there's an expected geographical diversity in the backdrops, with "The PITT" filming in Burbank and “Watson” in Vancouver. Nevertheless, both series have sent crews to Steel City to capture essential shots, ensuring the city of origin is appreciatively represented.
The series has been brushed by controversy, adding a layer of off-screen drama. A legal dispute arose when “ER” creator Michael Crichton’s widow accused the production of initially being an “ER” reboot, as stated by TribLIVE. Warner Bros. has since filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit.
'THE PITT' cast includes talents like Tracey Ifeachor, Patrick Marron Ball, and Fiona Dourif, blending new and experienced actors to bring its stories to life. Meanwhile, Clint Eastwood’s possible final film, Juror #2, is coming to Max, and a Fraggle Rock live tour is set for March.
