The blaze erupted on the 1600 block of 68th Avenue just before 2 a.m., according to reports from CBS News Philadelphia. Firefighters faced intense flames on both the first and second floors of a two-story rowhome upon their arrival.
The situation quickly escalated, prompting the Deputy Chief in command to definitively call for more resources. The fire spread, impacting an adjacent home, necessitating the heightened response.
Despite the challenges, the Philadelphia Fire Department successfully placed the fire under control by 3:07 a.m. The two victims were treated at the scene before being transported to the hospital for further observation, 6abc reported. The extent of their injuries has not been disclosed.
In the wake of the fire, the American Red Cross Southeastern Pennsylvania branch is stepping forward to provide assistance to a family of three affected by the incident, as revealed by CBS News Philadelphia.
