Two men from Louisiana have been taken into custody on charges involving internet sex crimes against children, with one facing additional counts after a thorough investigation. According to WGNO News, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested 52-year-old Aaron Wayne Sharp of Springfield following allegations that he engaged in explicit conversations with someone he thought was a minor and subsequently arranged to meet them.
Sharp was apprehended at the planned meeting point in Hammond on Tuesday and has been charged with one count each of indecent behavior with a juvenile and computer-aided solicitation of a minor. In a related case, 32-year-old Michael Vicknair of Gonzales now faces an additional 10 counts of pornography involving juveniles and one count of sexual abuse of an animal, as mentioned in a WDSU News report. These charges come after law enforcement conducted a forensic analysis of Vicknair's cellphone.
The Sheriff’s Office stated that these arrests are part of an ongoing effort by its Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force to combat online exploitation. A press release obtained by WAFB detailed that Vicknair was initially booked on one count each of indecent behavior with a juvenile and computer-aided solicitation of a minor, alongside three other individuals, before the discovery of the additional illegal content.
While Sharp's arrest was the result of proactive measures by authorities where he presumably believed he was communicating with a minor online, Vicknair's additional charges shed light on the dark trove of materials uncovered through investigative persistence. Further details about the cases against Sharp and Vicknair have not been made public as the investigations remain ongoing.
