Two men are now in custody after a domestic dispute led to gunfire and a 2-year-old boy being shot on Detroit's east side, police confirmed. The incident occurred Tuesday evening on Dickerson Avenue, just before 7 p.m., where the child was hit in the leg but is expected to recover from the non-life threatening injuries, ClickOnDetroit reported.

Interim Police Chief Todd Bettison provided details on the confrontation saying, "Darius Lacey, 27, and his two companions were going into the house to move things out when they encountered the mother and the new boyfriend," leading to gunfire with at least 15 shell casings recovered from the scene, as Audacy detailed. The boy caught in the crossfire belonged to Lacey and his ex-girlfriend, Bettison said, and after fleeing the scene with two "companions" in a black Dodge Charger, Lacey eventually turned himself in, ending the manhunt that spanned from Tuesday night into Wednesday.

Bettison shared with the media, "The good news is, they both took accountability for their actions and they both turned themselves in," a sentiment he expressed during a news conference following the arrest of Lacey and the child’s mother’s current boyfriend, as confirmed by The Detroit News. The shootout was described as domestic in nature, and it's not clear yet who fired first or if substance abuse played a role in the incident.

Charges are expected to be made as the investigation into the shooting continues, and anyone with additional information was urged to contact the Detroit Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
