
An Uber driver was killed in a road rage incident near the Las Vegas Strip on Monday afternoon, confirmed by authorities. News3LV reported the shooting took place around 4:04 p.m. at the intersection of Las Vegas Blvd and Palazzo Drive. The confrontation escalated when the victim, described as a white male adult in his 50s, approached the suspect's vehicle and was subsequently shot in the neck. Police have informed that the man, an Uber driver with passengers in tow, was driving a grey Jeep Cherokee behind the suspect's vehicle just before the confrontation occurred.
The suspect, a woman in her 20s who was the sole occupant of the silver Subaru WRX involved in the incident, fled the scene but has since been located and is in custody. The victim was said to be armed, but according to the details obtained by KTNV, "No shots were fired from the victim's gun." The area, which had been closed off following the shooting, has now been reopened to traffic.
As the investigation progressed, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department identified the Subaru's license plate, leading them to the suspect's home. During a press conference held at 10 p.m., Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department shared these updates and requested that any additional witnesses come forward to aid the ongoing homicide investigation. The tragic incident occurred amidst warnings of "heavy construction delays" in the area, as reported by the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada earlier that day, as per KTNV.
Traffic was already difficult due to construction on Las Vegas Boulevard, where the southbound lanes were reduced to one from Spring Mountain Road to Harmon Avenue. The Regional Transportation Commission warned drivers about the congestion, as reported by News3LV.
